Antonio Craxì, MD, is Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Palermo, Italy, where he is also Director of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Academic Department of Internal Medicine. Professor Craxì obtained his MD degree in Palermo in 1975. In 1980 and 1981, he worked as a Research Fellow at the Royal Free Hospital, London (UK), under the direction of Professor Dame Sheila Sherlock.

He is a member of several professional societies including the European and American Associations for the Study of Liver Disease, and has served on the Editorial Board of various international journals including Hepatology, Journal of Hepatology and Digestive and Liver Disease.

Professor Craxì has published more than 250 full papers and reviews in international journals and has made many presentations at both national and international meetings worldwide. His main research interests include: hepatitis C, hepatitis B, antiviral therapy, insulin resistance and fibrosis, NAFLD, hepatocellular carcinoma, the natural history and epidemiology of chronic liver disease, coeliac disease and inflammatory bowel diseases.
